ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT
Tropicalia is committed to global problems derived from climate change, waste, the loss of biodiversity and our ecosystems, among other environmental problems that affect our island.
For this reason Tropicalia acquires the commitment to alleviate these problems, from the local level, not only taking into account the cultural and responsible leisure commitment demonstrated year after year, but also through environmental and social commitment, as demanded by our legislation and the challenges current social, environmental and economic, even more so in our archipelago, on our island and in our cities.
At Tropicalia we are aware that the standards of living in our current society inevitably cause a marked ecological footprint, which is why we make the firm determination to evaluate the environmental impact of our events, and set the objective of minimizing and compensating for it. With firm commitments and resources, optimal results can be achieved in reducing our environmental impact and improving our Tropicalia.
We express our commitment to actions regarding the use of more sustainable materials, the increase in selective waste collection and recycling, the reduction of greenhouse gases (GHGs), as well as their inventory, the promotion of more mobility. sustainable towards our events, among other objectives.
On the other hand, you will play a relevant role in this challenge, being invited to undertake good environmental practices during our party, so that you can extend them to your own daily habits.
By being demanding from edition to edition, we will make Tropicalia an increasingly sustainable event. More sustainable Tropicalia.
Among the main actions that we are promoting, and that you will see through our social media campaigns:
Sustainable mobility
Energy
Generators are used at the event, so their consumption and environmental impact will be measured. In addition, CO2 emissions from the event will be calculated for each phase (assembly, development, and dismantling), related to energy consumption derived from water resources.
At Tropicalia, we are aware that the reduction in dates this year, 2025, will reduce energy consumption. Therefore, we are committed to consolidating dates to minimize our impact.
Water
Responsible Purchasing
Infrastructure
Waste
We have consolidated source separation and traceability by fraction. In 2024, we managed ≈2.6 tons of total waste, with 87.7% in selective collection and 12.6% in residual waste. Annual breakdown by fraction: glass 1,720 kg, packaging 492.13 kg, paper/cardboard 82.71 kg, residual waste 293.57 kg, and organic waste 25.18 kg. We implemented a reusable cup system: 8,000 units purchased and 5,234 returned, with a replacement rate of 65.4%.
We have been working for several years with a team of Environmental Patrols who support proper waste management during the event. Thanks to their work, we have ensured that almost 90% of the waste is separated at source, with guaranteed traceability of each fraction.
Training
Incorporation of environmental trainers to train the production team and event staff (Tropicalia environmental patrols), so they can subsequently share information and raise awareness with event users. Collaboration with artists, promoters, and partners to make Tropicalia a clean and safe event through environmentally and socially responsible initiatives, supported by visible and participatory actions, such as having a selection of mostly local artists as a social and environmental commitment.
In 2025, we expanded sustainability training for artists, integrating best practices in mobility, plastic reduction, and environmental awareness. This information is shared in the pre-coordination phase, thus reinforcing the festival’s collective commitment.
And what do you do for our event?
The committed tropicalera:
- Helps minimize the impact on the environment and its closest and immediate surroundings.
- Makes appropriate use of parking spaces intended for people with reduced mobility.
- Come to our event by using public transportation, carpooling, by bicycle, scooter or on foot.
- It does not waste water, because it is aware that on our island it is a scarce commodity.
- Properly separate waste at our event, because you know that if you don’t, it ends up in the waste cell and cannot be reused.
- Brings your reusable cup from home, because he knows that plastic generation is not only a local but a global problem. We want to see glasses from other festivals!
- You are aware that we must take care of the space in which our events take place.
- Use the sinks made available, in order to avoid dirtying the area and wasting water.
- Participate and collaborate with our environmental patrols because you value the work they do for the good of everyone, and our environment.
- They collaborate in socio-environmental campaigns because they know that they have a positive impact on society as a whole.
