ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT
Tropicalia is committed to global problems derived from climate change, waste, the loss of biodiversity and our ecosystems, among other environmental problems that affect our island.
For this reason Tropicalia acquires the commitment to alleviate these problems, from the local level, not only taking into account the cultural and responsible leisure commitment demonstrated year after year, but also through environmental and social commitment, as demanded by our legislation and the challenges current social, environmental and economic, even more so in our archipelago, on our island and in our cities.
At Tropicalia we are aware that the standards of living in our current society inevitably cause a marked ecological footprint, which is why we make the firm determination to evaluate the environmental impact of our events, and set the objective of minimizing and compensating for it. With firm commitments and resources, optimal results can be achieved in reducing our environmental impact and improving our Tropicalia.
We express our commitment to actions regarding the use of more sustainable materials, the increase in selective waste collection and recycling, the reduction of greenhouse gases (GHGs), as well as their inventory, the promotion of more mobility. sustainable towards our events, among other objectives.
On the other hand, you will play a relevant role in this challenge, being invited to undertake good environmental practices during our party, so that you can extend them to your own daily habits.
By being demanding from edition to edition, we will make Tropicalia an increasingly sustainable event. More sustainable Tropicalia.
Among the main actions that we are promoting, and that you will see through our social media campaigns:
Sustainable mobility
Encourage attending the event on foot, by public transport, by shared vehicle, by bicycle or scooter. The main means of public transportation to the event are promoted.
Parking reserved for people with reduced mobility is also promoted in the area around the event.
Energy
Generating sets are used at the event, so their consumption and environmental impact will be measured.
Calculation of CO2 emissions derived from the event for each of its phases (assembly phase, development phase and disassembly phase), related to the energy consumption derived from the consumption of the water resource.
Water
Use the authorized toilets, thus avoiding unnecessary waste of water. We must be responsible in the face of water scarcity.
Reduce water consumption, preventing drinking water from being wasted. Because if water is wasted, energy is also wasted and, consequently, CO2 emissions are generated into the atmosphere.
Provision of free water dispensers for people attending the event to reduce waste of water resources and avoid the use of bottled water (lower volume and quantity of plastic water bottle containers)
Shopping
Reuse the glass when you want to consume the same drink (we want you to bring the glass from home).
We will also provide reusable cups, since the use of single-use plastic cups is prohibited. Currently, Tropicalia is aware that the generation of plastic is not the solution, which is why it mainly advocates reuse.
Tropicalia evaluates its purchases, services and suppliers under existing sustainability criteria, to find the best sustainable solutions for the development of its events, and that this is extrapolated to the rest of its ecosystem.
Infrastructure
Use of sustainable materials by Tropicalia and its sponsors.
Reuse of materials from previous events, to avoid the use of new resources and avoid the generation of emissions.
Waste
Deposit waste generated selectively in containers. Provision of bins and selective containers (separate islands) to carry out correct collection and recycling work.
At the end of each day, the total waste generated per container will be quantified (percentage of filling, kg of fractions…), as part of the event’s waste prevention plan.
Training
Incorporation of environmental trainers to provide training to the production team and the event staff (Tropalia environmental patrols), so that they can later transfer the information and raise awareness to the users of the event.
Collaboration with artists, promoters and collaborators to turn Tropicalia into a clean and safe event, through environmental and socially responsible actions, supported by visible and participatory actions, such as having a selection of mostly local artists as a social and environmental commitment.
And what do you do for our event?
The committed tropicalera:
- Helps minimize the impact on the environment and its closest and immediate surroundings.
- Makes appropriate use of parking spaces intended for people with reduced mobility.
- Come to our event by using public transportation, carpooling, by bicycle, scooter or on foot.
- It does not waste water, because it is aware that on our island it is a scarce commodity.
- Properly separate waste at our event, because you know that if you don’t, it ends up in the waste cell and cannot be reused.
- Brings your reusable cup from home, because he knows that plastic generation is not only a local but a global problem. We want to see glasses from other festivals!
- You are aware that we must take care of the space in which our events take place.
- Use the sinks made available, in order to avoid dirtying the area and wasting water.
- Participate and collaborate with our environmental patrols because you value the work they do for the good of everyone, and our environment.
- They collaborate in socio-environmental campaigns because they know that they have a positive impact on society as a whole.
